Wind Farm Proposals and Community Position
A number of wind farm developments are currently being proposed in and around the Dunkeld and Birnam area. This page brings together information on those proposals and outlines the Community Council’s approach to considering them.
At its meeting on 23 February 2026, Dunkeld & Birnam Community Council agreed to support a unified statement developed in collaboration with rural Community Councils across Scotland, following a series of Community Council conventions led by groups including Leitholm, Eccles and Birgham Community Council.
The unified statement recognises the need for renewable energy and climate action, while raising concerns about the cumulative impact of large-scale infrastructure in rural areas and the way decisions are made at national level. In particular, it highlights the importance of a clear national strategy, coordinated planning, and ensuring that community views are meaningfully considered within the decision-making process.
Supporting this statement does not determine the Community Council’s position on any individual wind farm proposal. Each development will continue to be considered on its own merits, with the Community Council’s role being to reflect community views and support transparent, inclusive and well-informed decision-making. North Logiealmond Wind Farm
A proposal is being developed by Muirhall Energy for a wind farm at North Logiealmond, to the north-west of Dunkeld and Birnam.
The project is at a pre-application stage and the developer is currently undertaking community engagement and environmental assessment work ahead of submitting a planning application.
The proposed development would consist of a wind farm and associated infrastructure, including turbines, access tracks, electrical infrastructure and a grid connection. If consented, the project would contribute to renewable energy generation and national climate targets.

These materials include information on the site location, proposed layout, potential environmental considerations, and photomontages to help illustrate how the development may appear from selected viewpoints.
Earlier this year, Muirhall Energy held a series of public information events in Bankfoot, Chapelhill and Birnam. These events were attended by over 140 people and provided an opportunity for local residents to view the final proposed design of the wind farm and to understand how community feedback has influenced the plans.
Community Council Questions
Following the consultation event held by Muirhall Energy at Birnam Arts, Dunkeld & Birnam Community Council has submitted a series of questions to the developer seeking clarification on a number of matters.

Update on Application Timeline
Muirhall Energy has advised that there will be a delay to the submission of the Section 36 planning application, which had previously been expected in late March or early April. The application is now anticipated to be submitted in Summer 2026.
The delay is to allow for additional work as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment, specifically in relation to potential environmental effects associated with grid infrastructure. It is noted that grid infrastructure proposals will be subject to separate consultation and consenting processes.

Meall Dearg Wind Farm
Dunkeld & Birnam Community Council has submitted a formal objection to the proposed Meall Dearg Wind Farm (Section 36 Application ECU00006049). While we support renewable energy and recognise its importance in tackling climate change, the Community Council considers this proposal inappropriate in scale and location, with significant potential impacts on the landscape, biodiversity, heritage, and local amenity.

Developer Response
The applicant has submitted a clarification response to the objections raised by Dunkeld & Birnam Community Council and other parties.

DBCC Follow-Up Response to Developer
Having reviewed the clarification response, Dunkeld & Birnam Community Council maintains its objection in full. In our view, several core issues remain unresolved. Key concerns relate to landscape and visual impact, noise, cumulative wind farm development on the Highland Boundary Fault, transport and construction movements, biodiversity and protected species, historic environment considerations, private water supply risks, and the wider NPF4 policy context.
